If you are upgrading from 2.0 to 2.1, it is highly advised that you back up the folder of your current theme and the "files" folder, as you may come to overwrite them when you upload the 2.1 files.

Some of the file/folder structure has been changed in 2.1, so you should delete the following folders before upgrading:

- cache
- modules (backup any extra modules you may have created or installed)
- plugins (backup any extra plugins you may have created or installed)

Make sure that the permissions on your Secretary folder (and all sub-folders) are set to 777.

Upload all the files and folders, **except for the "files" folder**, within the download to your Secretary folder.

Double check that your theme wasn't overwritten or erased by visiting your site: if it looks like it should, then all is good! If not, upload the backed up theme to the "site/themes" folder.

If you are using clean URLs, you must update your htaccess file. There is an updated version in the "site" folder called "htaccess.txt". Copy this file to the folder where your site is located and rename it ".htaccess".
